Gear 1 - Cameras and Lenses

21st November, 2018

Everybody seems to be obsessed with photographic gear! I try to avoid visiting photography forums as much as possible, but when I do I always come away frustrated by peoples' obsession with a particular brand of camera, their ownership of which seems to go a very long way to defining their self worth:

"The Canon 5DS R beats the pants off Nikon's so-called flagship D850."

"The new mirrorless Nikons are SO much better than anything Sony make. If you are shooting Sony you would be a fool not to swap."

"Sony make the best professional cameras in the world and anybody not using them is an idiot."

And so on, and so forth, ad infinitum, and those are the polite posts! At the end of the day, a camera is just a tool and most top end cameras and lenses today are capable of producing incredible image quality that we could never have dreamt of 20 years ago. Nevertheless people are always asking me what cameras I use and why, so here goes:

I shoot predominantly on Olympus equipment and have done so for the last 15 years since switching to digital capture.
